Jason who is the ADRA director for Niger reports that they have planted a lot of peanut and cow pea and peanut seeds
I reproduce the email sent this week:
Thanks for your email. We have just distributed cow pea and peanutseeds to our women's garden participants. Once those are harvested wecan plan another round of vegetable gardens. This is a crucial timeright now as the sparse rains have just started. Depending on howmuch rain falls we will know how the food security situation will playout for the next year and if the current near famine will turn into anacute disaster situation. We can't control the rains, but our gardeninterventions have certainly been a huge blessing to the familiestouched by the project, on the larger scale probably a key topreventing future famine. Our sincere thanks for your interest andyour efforts on behalf of Niger. Best Regards,Jason
We have also supplied ADRA and the mutiple villages with a motorbike for £650 to travel between the many villages taking part in this seed planting scheme...as they had been using the bike of the local mayor but this had finally given out leaving them without any form of transport.
we pray that the rains will be good and that the crops help to prevent at least in this part of Niger .. the near famine turning into a repeat famine of 4 years ago.
regards
Ian
